IELTS General Training – prove you have practical, everyday English language skills
IELTS General Training measures your English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. The content of the exam reflects both workplace and social situations.
Take this IELTS English test if you would like to:

You can choose between paper-based IELTS or computer-delivered IELTS. Both test formats will take place at one of our official test centres.

Format of IELTS General Training:
Duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The IELTS English exam consists of four different sections: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Your examination will take place in an official British Council IELTS test centre.
Your speaking exam may take place on the same day as the other sections of the test, or up to a week before or after. You will receive a notification in advance of your test if your speaking exam is on a different day.
